Cyberculture :: Computers Technology Internet Essays

Cyberculture Through new technologies including computers, World Wide Web, and email, we have seen many changes the way we think about and carry out the process of writing. While most seem to welcome new technologies others like Sven Birkets believe these new technologies are hurting the learning process. He writes, â€Å"Many educators say that our students are less and less able to read, or analyze, or write with clarity and purpose. Who can blame the students? Everything they meet with in the world around them gives the signal: That was then, and electronic communications are now (63). This â€Å"cyberculture† that we are a part of has truly changed the way we currently live our lives. If we use new technologies to enhance learning and not it’s primary source we as a culture, a â€Å"cyberculture† will be able to make even greater advances than previously anticipated. Presently the need for actual printed textbooks is on the decline and is sure to c ontinue as we move further into the future. I was first introduced to computers in the early 1980’s and have witnessed first hand the advancements we as a culture have made over the past twenty years. I have gone from the green screen that we learned create a program that would make our name repeat itself on the screen, to creating a full functioning web page. The computer games have come a long way as well. There were two games on our school computers when I first started, â€Å"Lemonade stand† and â€Å"Lawnmower†. These were very basic games that were very badly animated if you could chose to call it animation. These games didn’t have a hand controller since the â€Å"Joy stick† wasn’t invented yet. The games of today look as though a movie crew has filmed them. The first word processing programs had to be loaded by disk each time you wanted to use them and were quite expensive. Today the programs are already loaded and stored in the computer and the expense is ve ry minimal. Our word processing programs can check for spelling and punctuation errors as well as grammar mistakes. For those who have grown up with this option it may not seem like a big deal but for those of us that learned to type on a typewriter that wasn’t even electric these advances are enormous.

The Democratization of Monsters as Characters Proportion and distortion are not just irrelevant to monstrosity. Monsters are not weird or wrong versions of ideal forms, and the monstrous is not that which violates the rules of the game or calls boundaries and order into question. There are no necessary narratives that are inevitably reacted to (making it just a question of how). At the same time, this is not an anarchist thesis. At one level, monstrosity is obviously that which is called monstrous. However, there must be something too it. Right? Ways of writing, reading, or thinking monstrosity enact monstrosity, just as an era’s critics often embody their culture better than the society they critique. What is interesting instead is how to react to monstrosity in its face today. Proportion is certainly not the issue. Pro portions look for portion and then compare them, without offering criteria for comparison. Elementary definitions of simile and metaphor are not instructive in this regard. A simile is a metaphor with ‘like’ or ‘as’, and both are comparisons, but comparisons are acts or statements of comparing. To compare is to describe as similar, equal, or analogous. First, similar means alike but not identical, and alike means having close resemblance – which is the state or quality of exhibiting similarity or likeness too. Second, equal means having the same measure or value. Same means being the very one, identical – which means being the same, exactly equal, or just indistinguishable and so interchangeable. Third, analogous means â€Å"similar or alike in such a way as to permit the drawing of an analogy†, and analogy means â€Å"similar in some respects† or a â€Å"comparison b ased on such similarity†[1]. The whole batch of words that try to explain comparison end up relying on the exhibiting of similarity to come from the object, measurement to be intrinsic to the object, interchangeability to be possible by inability to distinguish, and objects with respects that can be the previous things. Exhibition is not a one way street by which objects strike passive actors. Equal means having the same measurement.

Health coach Essay

Being a health coach for gamescape these past 5 weeks has really helped me reach a better understanding of health and wellness. Having a team with such different backgrounds and very different in their whole aspect of health and wellness was a challenge at times but that is what made me understand health and wellness so much better. Being the team leader and having to make different life decisions for the three other team members helped me see how changing some small things can have a huge impact in your life. I have learned that even someone who is very active and fit like June in gamescape was there is still room for improvement and better health choices to be made. The most important thing that I have learned is that there has to be balance between all six elements in order to reach optimal health. It is really important to understand each element and make it a part of your life because if one is absent in your life then you can not reach true health and wellness. Before gamescape I had no idea about the six elements that make up health and wellness. I knew that all those things were important but I never really knew the role the six elements have in reaching optimal health. Also learning all the ways that I can help prevent chronic disease has been great, learning about all the risk factors made me very scared at first but I also know now that I can help prevent it.

Perception in thought processes Essay

This paper seeks to explore the role played by perception in thought processes in an individual’s life. It also focuses on intelligence and the relationship between intelligence and cognition. Perception which is the process of acquiring, interpreting, selecting, and organizing sensory information influence thinking styles, thinking skills as well as the types of thoughts in an individual’s mind. The world of an individual begins by what is visible, imagined or told in a story about various issues and things in his or her immediate surrounding. When these things are assimilated by an individual, a response is ignited in the mind in the form of thought processes. (Bohm, D. 1994, p. 130). I perceive the current modern world as a place of creativity and competition and an arena where everybody is always pushing his or her way even if it is to the disadvantage of others. For instance, the industrialized nations continue to release greenhouse gases despite the world wide outcry on global warming. Due to these, I am always thinking of discovering something new that can push me a head of the rest in both competition and creativity. Most importantly, what is always in my mind is how to accumulate enough money in this capitalistic world where everyone is keeps to themselves. The egocentricity I encounter in my interaction with people has made me to think of ways on how to keep whatever I have to myself and a way from the selfish world. The characteristics of what I perceive as well as personal characteristics like my attitude, personality, motives, interests, past experiences and expectations affect the thought processes. Several definitions for intelligence have been developed by various researchers and scientists but there seems to be no consensus on the universally acceptable definition. According to Sternberg, J. R, Jean E. P. (2005), the definitions revolve around specific abilities which are pooled together to form general abilities as the parameters around which intelligence can be defined. Consequently intelligence can be defined as the ability to learn about, learn from, understand, and interact with one’s environment. These specific abilities are the reason for cognition which is the process of recognizing, interpreting, making judgments as well as reasoning; these involves perceptions, learning, memory, and decision making. The capacity for knowledge and ability to acquire it is a specific component of intelligence that can lead a person into judging a situation or an object. The capacity to reason and higher thinking coupled with ability to carry out an evaluation gives judgment as a product of intelligence. The ability to adapt to a new environment or to changes in the current environment dictates how an animal or human being will act on the information from its environment. Interpretation which is encompassed in cognition is as a result of the ability to comprehend the issue at hand and contrast and compare relationships that we face. Cognition can therefore be said to result from original and productive thought. Conclusion. What an individual perceives define the thought processes he or she is undergoing. Perception of the surrounding environment is what triggers the development of thinking skills and styles needed in response. Cognition is a consequence of specific abilities which are found in intelligence and they mostly occur together.

Switch Models for Managing Queue Length Matrices

Switch Model We consider an N _ N non-blocking, input bu_ered switch. Figure 4.1: Queueing theoretical account for a waiting line. N end product ports are divided into M reference groups each of N=M end products ports. When a package arrives it joins one of the M group, depending on the its finish. In the system that we consider, a package from an input I destined for end product port J is put into qij modM. The input tra_c is assumed homogenous and with Bernoulli distribution. Packages 91 4.2 Random Selection are distributed uniformly for all end product ports. Time is assumed to be slotted with each slot equal to the transmittal clip of a cell. In a cell slot, we have to choose a upper limit of N cells from MN FIFO waiting lines with non-conicting finish references. The manner in which these N cells are selected is decided by the cell choice policy. Di_erent cell choice policies are discussed in the following subdivision. Here we assume that at most one cell is selected from each input port, destined to a non-conicting end product. An e_cient cell choice policy should maximise the throughput and mini- mize package transmittal hold. It should besides be noted that the programming policy should be simple for execution. We present here di_erent cell choice poli- cies. A Queue length matrix L, of size N _N, is formed from current waiting line length of FIFO. The current waiting line length of each FIFO is assigned to Lij, where I is input port and J is the finish port of HOL cell. We should not put our families in nursing home Purpose To persuade my audience why they should not put their family members in a nursing home. Introduction Do you have a disable or elderly family member that can not do for themselves? We as people need to think about where we place our family members as far as nursing homes and facilities. Many of you may not have any disable family members, but I know you may have elderly family members, and you do not need to put your family member in a nursing home.I know this because I have been a nursing assistant for four years and I also have a sister who has been a nursing assistant for three years and has done home health care and nursing home services. I had two family members in a nursing home. One passed away and the other one did not start to recover until she came home. Central Idea I am here to convince you to that you should not put your family members in a nursing. Preview You should not put your family member in a nursing home becau se in a nursing home the ratio is 1 caregiver to 10-15 patients, your independence is limited, and the chances of your love ones improving are little to none.Body I. The first reason why you should not put your family member in a nursing home is because in a nursing home the ratio is one caregiver to ten to fifteen patients. A. The biggest problem in a nursing home is that they are short of registered nurses and nurse aides. 1. According to AHCA (American home care association) as of 2007 the vacancy rate for registered nurses at a nursing home was 16. 3% yet some nursing homes have only one registered nurse for 50 to 70 patients notes Charlene Harrington, a professor of sociology and nursing at the University of California. . For nursing assistants, they have the most work. 3. They have the task of feeding, clothing, bathing, hygiene care, transporting, and these are just a few are the task done on a daily basis. 4. A caregiver does these tasks for more then six patients and over n ight may have the minimum of ten. Subpoint: Now that you have learned about this first risk taking at a nursing home, lets move on to my second reason I. The second reason why you should not put your family member in a nursing home is because their independence is limited. . When being in a nursing care facility your time is limited. You have to get up, eat, and go to bed, etc. at a certain time. 2. When in a home care setting, you can get when you want or go wherever you want without having someone telling you. This gives your family member a chance to live a normal life everyone else. 3. According to the book Elder care: Choosing & Financing Long-Term Care by Joseph Matthews, one advantage of homecare is that you and family can better control the care you receive and avoid the care you do not need or would not need. 4.In homecare services you can also avoid the risks of a family being abused, neglected, and thief. Subpoint: Now that you have learned about these two risks of sendin g your family members to a nursing home, lets move on to my third reason. II. The third reason why you should not put your family reason member in a nursing home is because their chances of improving are little to none. 1. If it is not in the care plan the staff will not do it. This statement says that a caregiver will not take care of the family member any further than then what is on a piece of paper. 2.Failure to provide comprehensive care plans was among was among the top most frequently cited deficiencies in nursing homes facilities in 2008, according to a November 2009 report co-authored by Harrington of UC San Francisco. 3. They may also not provide the care for your family member of their particular need, for example, physical therapy. If a patient is paralyzed on one side or waist down, they may be ridding. In a home care setting, you will have your own social worker, a registered nurse that comes to the home to check on you, and can have therapy at your home or sign yourse lf up for therapy services.Being able to get out and move around whether the family member is in a wheelchair or not can help create a less risk of things like depression, cancer, and bedsores. Conclusion In conclusion, you should not put your disable or elderly family members in a nursing home because in a nursing home the ratio is one caregiver to ten to fifteen patients, your family member independence are limited, and the chances of someone improving in a nursing home are little to none.I am here to convince you that you should not put your family members in a nursing home, if you care about the needs for your love ones and want to avoid the risk of thief, neglect, and abuse.
